1. What are the Ollies?
The Ollies are annual awards where students can nominate their peers, club(s), faculty and staff to be recognized and appreciated for their work from the current academic year. The event itself is May 1st in the SCC theater and atrium at 7pm. In addition to the presentation of awards, there will be student performances and desserts.
The Ollies is a student-led organization that is working closely with the Director of Student Activities, Dennis Hicks, and Student Activities Specialist, Robbie Steinberg, for guidance and support. The event and concept was inspired by the University of Chicago's Student Leader Awards.
2. Can we trust the awards/who decides the awards?
We aim to be as appreciative and impartial as possible. Awards are selected via the Ollies Awards Selection Committee. There are seven committee members in total, each an undergraduate and chosen for their experience with different club categories across campus respectively (academic, spiritual, sports and fitness, media and publications, political and advocacy, et cetera). These categories were adopted from Student Activities list of student clubs and organizations. Each committee member applied for the position in early February through March, and their applications were reviewed by Student Activities.
Together, they'll carefully review nominations for the awards after the nomination deadline April 10th under supervision from the Director of Student Activities, Dennis Hicks, and Student Activities Specialist, Robbie Steinberg.
3. How many awards are there?
